Thank you to Dr. Peterson and Greg Skelton for New playground equipment at Tonalea Tonalea was the recipient of a new piece of playground equipment due to the efforts of Dr. David Peterson and Greg Skelton from SUSD. Systems, Inc. awarded the NEOS™ grant to the Scottsdale Public School District and Tonalea was selected to receive it to upgrade their playground and provide students with a new piece of interactive playground technology. The technology equipment is described as: “Kinetic! Explosive! Interactive! NEOS moves at the speed of light. It's Challenging........ The world's newest electronic sport is an electronic game for the heart and lungs—not just the thumbs. It's a giant video looking game with all the bells and point possibilities of a hand held but this game gets kids hearts pumping and pounding.”

Family Story Night has quickly become an exciting community building event at Tonalea Elementary School. Stacey Pasquel, the librarian, opens the cafeteria once a month and invites students and their families to listen to a story read, have some fun, and walk out the door with a free book that they take home to keep. Mrs. Pasquel explaind, "My main objectives in doing this night are for parents to get involved with their children's' schooling by making reading a family activity and to make sure that every student always has something to read. Also, to ensure that more of our students are excited about reading, spending time with their families and encourage all of our students to be lifelong learners."
Our January Family Story Night featured Captain Steve Littel, from the Scottsdale Fire Dept., Scottsdale Police Officer, Jan Wattier, from crime prevention, and our own Ms Calderon enjoying some time on the fire truck.
Ron Hoon from Fox 10 News came to Tonalea Elementary School, Thursday, January 10, 2008. Upon his visit he prepared a lesson for the children in Social Studies about Paul Revere. He even had a memorial coin to give to one student who answered a series of questions correctly. Then, Mr. Hoon read a book to the 5th graders about Paul Revere. We learned Mr. Hoon is advocate for reading and encouraged all students to continue reading and to pursue a college education. Our students were excited to see him and speak with such a local celebrity! He's caused the students to be excited for reading and learning! Thank You TONALEA Community Both overrides passed!Thank you Tonalea community for your support of our students and staff by approving both the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) Override and Capital Override! Your support allows Tonalea to continue providing the best possible education for our students.
“We are very proud to be a Highly Performing School”
Family Story Night Another successful Family Story Night was held December 13th. Our special guest reader was Ronald McDonald! This was a very special treat for all of our students, to support their habit of reading. There were several drawings for book giveaways and lots of fun for all!
